What it is
What is Offshore Development Center and how does it work?
An Offshore Development Centre (ODC) is a dedicated engineering team and workspace in Vietnam, set up and run by TechHub as a long-term extension of your R&D. Unlike project outsourcing, an ODC is a standing capability with your processes, your tools and your roadmap.
The economics are straightforward: senior engineering capacity in Vietnam costs substantially less than in the US or Western Europe, and a dedicated centre keeps institutional knowledge in one place instead of dispersing it at the end of every project. The operational advantage is continuity — the same engineers deepen their understanding of your product year after year. For background, see Offshoring (Wikipedia).

When to use it
When should you use Offshore Development Center?
This model is usually the right choice in a small number of clearly recognisable situations. If none of these match your position, we will say so and point you to the model that does.
- You need sustained engineering capacity, not one-off projects
- You want a cost-efficient R&D base with continuity
- Institutional knowledge keeps leaking through vendor churn
- You may eventually want to own the operation outright
Engagement
Which engagement model should you choose?
Most clients start with one model and evolve. The decision usually comes down to two questions: who owns day-to-day management, and how long you need the capacity. We will tell you when a smaller engagement is the right answer.
- Need specific skills fast, keep control → staff augmentation
- Need a managed unit for a long roadmap → dedicated team
- Want a local presence you eventually own → BOT / ODC
Staff augmentation
Individual engineers join your existing team, under your management and inside your process. Best when you know what to build and need specific skills or extra capacity.
Commercial model: Monthly, per engineer
Dedicated team
A complete team — engineers, QA and a delivery lead — works exclusively on your product, managed by TechHub to your standards. Best for sustained roadmaps and several workstreams at once.
Commercial model: Monthly, per team
Build-Operate-Transfer / ODC
We build and run a dedicated centre in Vietnam, then transfer it into your ownership once it is stable. Best when you want a permanent local presence without running market entry yourself.
Commercial model: Phased, by agreement
Process
How does an engagement run?
From first conversation to steady-state delivery, most engagements follow four stages.
- DiscoveryWe map your goal, constraints and timeline, then recommend the model that fits — even when that is not the largest engagement.
- Setup & complianceContracts, employment paperwork, tax registration and security arrangements are put in place correctly the first time.
- OnboardingPeople, tooling and access go live, with a documented ramp plan so the engagement produces value quickly.
- Operate & reportOngoing management against agreed KPIs, regular reviews and transparent monthly reporting.
Process
What happens in the first 30 days?
Speed only matters if the engineer becomes productive. This is the ramp plan we run on every engagement.
- Days 1–2 — access and contextAccounts, repositories, environments and security briefing. The engineer reads your architecture notes and meets the people they will work with.
- Days 3–5 — first contributionA small, real ticket goes through your full review and release process, so integration problems surface immediately rather than in week four.
- Week 2 — full sprint participationThe engineer takes normal sprint load, joins ceremonies and starts contributing to estimates and technical discussion.
- Week 3–4 — ownershipThey own a feature area end to end. We hold a 30-day review with you covering delivery, communication and fit — with a free replacement if anything is off.
Quality
How do you vet engineers before we see them?
Roughly three per cent of applicants join the TechHub pool. The screen is deliberately expensive to pass, because the cost of a wrong hire lands on your roadmap rather than ours.
- CV and experience verificationReal project history, references and employment checks — not keyword matching.
- Live technical assessmentWorking code under observation, in the stack the role actually requires.
- System design discussionTrade-off reasoning, not memorised patterns.
- English and communication interviewB2–C1 level so the engineer works with your team, not through a translator.
- Reliability and reference checkDelivery track record, ownership and how they behave when something goes wrong.
How does Offshore Development Center compare with the alternatives?
The differences that usually decide the choice:
| Criteria | Doing it yourself | TechHub |
|---|---|---|
| Engagement horizon | Project-based | Long-term standing team |
| Knowledge retention | Lost at project end | Compounds over time |
| Team identity | Shared resources | Dedicated to you |
| Cost profile | Per project | Predictable monthly |
| Future ownership | Not applicable | Convertible via BOT |
Which industries have you delivered in?
Domain familiarity shortens ramp-up: engineers who have already handled payment reconciliation, clinical data or logistics tracking do not need six weeks to understand your constraints. Across 300+ projects we have worked in:
Commercials
How is pricing structured, and what is included?
Pricing is quoted per engagement rather than published as a single rate, because seniority, stack and duration move the number significantly. What matters commercially is that our quotes are all-in: sourcing, five-step vetting, employment contracts, payroll, personal income tax, statutory insurance, workspace, equipment and delivery management are already included. There is no separate recruitment fee and no hidden employer-cost surprise.
For budgeting, most clients compare our all-in monthly cost against the fully loaded cost of a local hire — salary plus employer contributions, recruitment fees, equipment, workspace, management overhead and the two-to-three-month vacancy before anyone starts. On that basis, senior engineering capacity in Vietnam is consistently the more efficient option, which is why clients keep teams with us for years rather than months.
Contracts run monthly with an agreed notice period, so you can scale down without a redundancy process. You receive a written quote against your specific role profile before committing to anything.
Security & compliance
How do you protect our code, data and IP?
Every engagement runs under an information-security management system aligned to ISO/IEC 27001, with quality processes certified to ISO 9001. In practice that means role-based access to repositories and environments, device and password policy, segregated networks in our Hanoi centre, logged access to production data and a documented offboarding checklist so credentials do not outlive an engagement.
Contractually, intellectual property in everything we build is assigned to your company, NDAs cover every individual on the engagement, and we can sign your own security addendum or data-processing agreement. Clients in fintech, healthcare and insurance have taken our teams through their own vendor security reviews.
If your compliance team needs evidence, we provide certification documentation, policy summaries and named points of contact rather than generic assurances.
Why it works
Why do companies outsource engineering?
Recruiting a senior engineer in the US or Western Europe typically takes two to three months and commits you to fixed cost long after the project that justified it. Outsourcing to a vetted partner converts that into flexible capacity: you add proven engineers in days, scale down without a redundancy process, and keep your own team focused on product and customers.
Outsourcing (Wikipedia) and Offshoring (Wikipedia) are now standard operating models for software companies rather than cost-cutting measures of last resort. The decisive factor is not the hourly rate but whether the partner stays accountable for quality and retention once the contract is signed.
Location
Why Vietnam, and why Hanoi specifically?
Vietnam is one of Asia’s fastest-growing technology economies (World Bank — Vietnam), producing a large annual cohort of STEM graduates with strong engineering fundamentals and improving English. Senior engineering costs run substantially below US and Western European levels for comparable seniority.
Working hours overlap with both APAC business hours and European mornings, so you get real-time collaboration rather than overnight hand-offs. Hanoi in particular concentrates universities, technology parks and a mature IT services sector, which is why our 200+ engineers are based there.
Why us
Why choose TechHub as your engineering partner?
We have spent 10+ years building software and technical teams from Hanoi, delivering 300+ projects for clients in 12 countries with a 90% client satisfaction rate. Every engineer passes a five-step screen with a 3% acceptance rate.
Delivery runs under ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001 certified processes, with NDAs and full intellectual-property assignment as standard. Crucially, we stay accountable after the placement: we manage retention, replace poor fits at our cost during the trial period, and report on delivery rather than disappearing once an engineer starts.
That combination — senior talent, compliant employment and ongoing delivery ownership — is what separates a long-term engineering partner from a CV-forwarding agency.
Track record
What results have clients seen?
“The team used React Native to build iOS and Android apps for a real-estate platform, integrating our backend and property search. Proactive communication, flexibility and technical expertise stood out.”
“They followed a structured Agile approach with clearly defined milestones, integrating our logistics platform with third-party providers and building a real-time tracking dashboard.”
“They were not just executing tasks but were genuinely invested in the product’s success — UI/UX, front-end, back-end and payment integration for a marketplace MVP.”
Outcomes are drawn from verified client engagements; average rating 4.9/5 across independent B2B review platforms.
Our people
Who will actually be working on your product?
Engineers stay with us for years, and that continuity is what protects your institutional knowledge. Our teams run internal workshops, speak at developer events such as Vietnam Mobile Day, and have hosted community meetups in Hanoi — the same people you interview are the ones who ship your product.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is Offshore Development Center?
An Offshore Development Centre (ODC) is a dedicated engineering team and workspace in Vietnam, set up and run by TechHub as a long-term extension of your R&D. Unlike project outsourcing, an ODC is a standing capability with your processes, your tools and your roadmap.
How much does Offshore Development Center cost?
Pricing is quoted per engagement because scope, headcount and seniority vary widely. Engineer costs in Vietnam are substantially below US and Western European equivalents, and our fees are all-in — sourcing, employment, payroll, statutory contributions and management are included rather than billed separately. You receive a written quote against your specific requirements before committing.
How quickly can we start?
Shortlists are delivered within 48 hours of an agreed profile, and onboarding typically completes in about a week. Setup work such as contracts and tax registration runs in parallel so it does not delay the start date.
Who is the legal employer, and who directs the work?
Where an Employer of Record arrangement applies, TechHub is the legal employer and carries the compliance obligation, while you direct the day-to-day work. In other models the responsibilities are set out explicitly in the agreement so there is no ambiguity.
How do you ensure compliance in Vietnam?
We operate under ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001 certified processes and manage Vietnamese employment contracts, personal income tax withholding, and social, health and unemployment insurance contributions on the statutory calendar. Records are kept audit-ready.
How is our intellectual property protected?
Intellectual property is assigned to your company contractually, NDAs are standard for every person on the engagement, and access to code and data is controlled under our information-security management system.
What if the engagement needs to change or end?
Scope can be increased or reduced with an agreed notice period, and exit terms — including handover of documentation, accounts and assets — are defined in the contract from the start rather than negotiated under pressure later.
Why choose TechHub for Offshore Development Center?
10+ years operating from Hanoi, 200+ engineers, 300+ projects delivered for clients in 12 countries, and a 90% satisfaction rate. We stay accountable for delivery and retention throughout the engagement rather than stepping away after placement.
